Abstract :
This article provides a reassessment of the conclusions put forward by Ignatius Brady in the 1960s, which have provided the basis for subsequent scholarly assessments of Peter Lombard’s Pauline commentary, the Collectanea or Magna glosatura. Brady had argued for the existence of two versions of the text, both attributable to Lombard himself. By turning to unstudied manuscripts from English libraries, this article reevaluates Brady’s assessment, arguing that he was premature in his conclusions, and calling for a new beginning in the study of Lombard’s biblical oeuvre, based on a more meticulous collation and study of manuscripts outside of Paris.
