Insight artistry has its roots in early efforts to create theatrical performance pieces that would serve as artistic vehicles for mitigating contemporary social and cultural conflicts. In this essay, we will trace the journey of how we began by combining the Insight method and the performing arts with the purpose of developing artistic responses to the polarized habits of mind that increasingly divide Americans from each other on any social, political, or cultural issue you care to name. We will show how through our many artistic experiments and endeavors we have come to understand what we do as an approach to artistry and creativity that guides the creation of our pieces, orients our research, and helps us engage with our material as we work to shape and stage it. L’Insight artistique («Insight artistry») est une méthode de découverte esthétique et de création artistique qui a été développée et raffinée au cours des dix dernières années par un collectif d’artistes talentueux, diversifiés et engagés socialement. L’Insight artistique prend ses racines dans les premiers efforts pour créer des pièces de théâtre qui serviraient de véhicules artistiques pour atténuer les conflits sociaux et culturels contemporains. Dans cet essai, nous retracerons le parcours de nos débuts en combinant la méthode Insight et les arts du spectacle dans le but de développer des réponses artistiques aux habitudes de polarisation de l’esprit qui divisent de plus en plus les Américains sur toute question sociale, politique ou culturelle qui vous viendrait à l’esprit. On montrera comment, grâce à nos nombreuses expériences et efforts artistiques, nous sommes arrivés à saisir ce que nous faisons comme approche artistique et créative qui guide la création de nos pièces, oriente nos recherches et nous aide à nous engager avec notre matériau alors que nous travaillons à le façonner et à le mettre en scène. |
