Abstract :
The paper gathers the information on the human consumption of acorns as a foodstuff in Iran from antiquity to the 1970s. Acorns were a widely available, edible natural resource but required treatment in order to render them palatable and digestible. Acorn consumption was generally triggered by poor harvests and ensuing famines and mainly practiced by nomadic groups.
