En nous appuyant sur une vaste et complémentaire documentation d’archives, en particulier notariales, nous tenterons de mettre en relief la stratification sociale et les mécanismes de transmission et de reproduction à l’oeuvre dans les ghettos à partir de l’étude des noms de famille. Sous réserve de précautions méthodologiques qui seront exposées, l’anthroponymie nous donne également des indications importantes sur les mobilités des populations juives et permet de mesurer certaines évolutions dans leurs comportements démographiques et culturels, mais aussi sociaux et économiques. This paper aims at exploring the economic and social history of the Roman ghetto in the 18th century through the prism of onomastics and population censuses. Drawing on an extensive and complementary archive documentation (in particular notarial registers), we will highlight the social stratification and the mechanisms of transmission and reproduction operating inside the ghettos, starting from the study of family names. Taking into account certain methodological precautions, anthroponymy provides us with valuable insights into the mobility of Jewish populations, and allows us to measure certain evolutions of their demographical and cultural practices, and social and economics one alike. |
