Abstract :

The theologian and exegete whose work is grounded in the material of Scriptures must approach the Bible with the greatest scientific rigour. The mastering of one or several exegetical methods is essential to 'serve the text' and overcome the possible reflex that might lead one to make the text 'serve' one’s ends. This stance of 'service of the text' can enable one, in the course of the theological task, to see the text as leading in ever new ways to the reception of a Word that comes from neither the theologian nor the exegete. This new and unexpected Word can only be received in the paradoxical attitude of letting go.
