Abstract :
Edition of a fragmentary papyrus letter of unknown provenance, in which the sender orders the pursuit, capture, and rendition of five ταρσικάριοι – weavers of linen fabric in the Tarsian style, some or all likely slaves. A post-script singles out individuals for questioning, among them an οἰκέτης, and mentions an Antiochene μάγειρος, who is also apparently in flight. A discussion of the letter’s implications for the use of slave labor in skilled production in Late Antique Egypt follows the edition.
