Document Details : Title: Narrational Texture and Narratology Subtitle: Judges 6:25-32 as a Test Case Author(s): MATHIEU, Yvan Journal: Theoforum Volume: 46 Issue: 1 Date: 2015 Pages: 53-67 DOI: 10.2143/TF.46.1.3149606 Abstract : In dialogue with practitioners of Sociorhetorical Analysis (SRA), this paper illustrates the way Narrative criticism works with a Biblical text using Judges 6:25-32 as a test case. After performing the preliminary tasks of any exegetical method (translation, delimitation and summary of the text), the author proceeds with a close reading of the text, paying attention to narrative time, plot, roles of the narrator and of the implied reader, points of view and characters. He detects in the text a transition from a resolution plot ('what will happen?') to a revelation plot (a gain of knowledge about a character in the story). The whole episode can therefore be seen as a qualifying test for Gideon. The paper concludes with three suggestions for SRA practitioners. En dialogue avec les praticiens de l’analyse socio-rhétorique (ASR), cet article illustre comment la critique narrative aborde un texte biblique en prenant Jg 6,25-32 comme cas type. Après avoir accompli les tâches préliminaires de toute méthode exégétique (traduction, délimitation et résumé du texte), l’auteur fait une lecture serrée du texte en s’intéressant au temps raconté et racontant, à l’intrigue, aux rôles du narrateur et du lecteur implicite, aux points de vue et aux personnages. Il note ainsi une transition d’une intrigue de résolution («Que va-t-il se passer?») à une intrigue de révélation (développement d’un personnage de l’intrigue). L’épisode entier peut donc être vu comme une épreuve de qualification pour Gédéon. L’article conclut avec trois suggestions pour les praticiens de l’ASR. |
