Abstract :
Can Socio-rhetorical interpretation’s 'Narrational texture' be applied to non-narrative texts? This article explores the question by presenting Meir Sternberg’s functional definition of narrative in dialogue with SRI’s Narrational texture. After setting out the parameters of the issue in part 1, in part 2 the article presents Sternberg’s functional definition of the narrativity of narrative: the double drama of the concurrent interplay of represented time and representing time. Part 3 offers suggestions for possibly incorporating some aspects of this understanding of narrative in SRI’s analytic approach to ancient, preferably narrative, texts.
