Abstract :
A few years ago, three parchment strips were found which come from a codex of the 10th century reused as a backing for three fascicles of the Serdicensis Dujčev gr. 37, in the 'Ivan Dujčev Centre for Slavo-Byzantine Studies' in Sofia. In this article the entire text of the fragments will be presented and discussed. They belong to a manuscript with excerpts from various works on grammar and rhetoric and on celestial signs, namely the anonymous Περὶ τῶν τῆς ῥητορικῆς προοίμιον, §12,26-33, Patillon; John Lydusʼ Περὶ μηνῶν, 4,119, Wünsch; a parallel text to the Γεωπονικά 1,3,12 and other unidentified writings. The strips are independent witnesses to the text of all of the three aforementioned works. The most interesting case is the excerpt from Lydus where Apuleiusʼ De mundo, 10-11 is quoted as a source. However, we may assume that Lydusʼ text was also directly dependent on the original, the (pseudo-)Aristotelian Περὶ κόσμον, 394b7-35, which had been translated by Apuleius.
