Malinowski and his occasional host and temporary student, the missionary W.J.V. Saville, the relationship between ethnologists and missionaries will be highlighted and reflected on in their fundamental differences and mutualities of interest. Unfulfilled expectations as well as a certain rivalry between the two groups always led to further critical appraisals on both sides that did not always correspond with reality. Against the general background of the realisation of aims, tasks and consequences of the activities of missionaries and ethonologists in the field, the relation of the two groups to each other will be discussed and programmatic works on the topic will be pointed out. À partir de l’exemple de l’ethnologue britanno-polonais B. Malinowski et du missionnaire W.J.V. Saville, son hôte occasionnel et étudiant temporaire, on proposera un éclairage sur la relation entre ethnologues et missionnaires, ainsi qu’une réflexion sur leur différences fondamentales et sur leurs intérêts communs. Des attentes déçues et une certaine rivalité entre les deux groupes ont toujours débouché sur des appréciations critiques venues des deux côtés. Elles ne correspondaient pas toujours à la réalité. Dans le cadre général des objectifs et des tâches à réaliser ainsi que dans celui des conséquences des activités sur le terrain des missionnaires et des ethnologues, la discussion portera sur la relation mutuelle des deux groupes et envisagera des programmes de travail programmables sur le sujet. |
