Abstract :
Eastern Christians have retained the apostolic tradition of a married presbyterate. The author reflects on the need to appreciate the vocation and role of the priest’s wife for various reasons, not the least of which is the way that such an appreciation can benefit the clergy couple’s relationship. He suggests several theological models for the identity and work of the presvitera, and analyzes the significance of the fact that in all of the Eastern Churches the priest’s wife has a distinctive title.
