Abstract :
The aim of this paper is to revisit the story of ‘the dancing daughter’ in the gospels from an interdisciplinary approach. I interpret de text from a narrative point of view, from an iconological point of view, from a gender point of view, and finally from an anthropological point of view. The figures of Salome and John the Baptist have had an incalculable impact on both exegesis and art history. Furthermore, the motif cluster of ‘beheading’ and ‘dancing’ is freighted with anthropological gender archetypes. This essay proposes an interdisciplinary hermeneutic of ‘interstitial spaces’. This method releases new energy and new interpretations, enriched by the most recent textual, visual, gender and anthropological paradigms.
