Document Details : Title: Les textes funéraires en arabe du cimetière al-Ma'lāh à La Mekke Author(s): SCHNEIDER, Madeleine Journal: Le Muséon Volume: 127 Issue: 3-4 Date: 2014 Pages: 379-476 DOI: 10.2143/MUS.127.3.3062099 Abstract : In al-Ma‘lāh, the oldest cemetary of Makkah, 591 tombstones are still in situ. Several of them are those of the Prophet’s family. Others are those of the first caliphs’ descendants or clients, or those of members of important tribes. Few of them are dated, 106, and 37 only belong to the 3d-4th c. H., that is to say the most interesting period. 'Classical' epitaphs are inscribed as well as unusual. They point out the richness of the Ḥiğāz and Dahlak’s epigraphy. Their study has allowed me to improve the interpretation of one formula and to modify chronological orders. |
