Abstract :
The article gives an overview of the Jewish (Hebraic) elements that shaped Ethiopian Christianity in religious and daily life and concludes that the reforms lead by Ethiopian sovereigns like Zara Yaqob were theological and political decisions which allowed to unify and solidify the nation and its Christian faith, where beside pagans also Jews and Jewish-Christians found there place. While most of these Jewish elements can be explained as a continuation of Biblical traditions, there remain some textual and linguistic elements that go back to direct contact with Jews and cannot be explained solely by an imitation of Biblical traditions.
