Abstract :
The article presents and discusses arguments that dispute and those that confirm the assumption that Jews, Christians, and Muslims believe in the same God. In Judaism, Islam, and Roman Catholic theology there are strong voices advocating for that assumption while Protestant churches and theologians tend to be more hesitant in that respect. The author points out that the argumentation depends not least on the perspective of the reflection. From a (normative) theological standpoint (as opposed to a descriptive religious studies view), it is possible to state that the confessional concepts of God point beyond themselves. Thus, one can believe in different ways in God while assuming that it is not a different God. Central to the argument is the distinction between the unfathomable reality of God and the religious and confessional conceptions of God.
