Abstract :
In 1919, two studies from the French Sulpician Jules Touzard, professor at the Catholic University of Paris, tried to open up the door set ajar by the Pontifical Biblical Commission for a discussion on the authorship of the Bible’s first five books. In April 1920, the Holy Office refused any interpretation and maintained that Moses himself was their principal author. This decision obviously proved that, in exegesis, the modernist crisis was not over.
