Abstract :
In the last fifty years the discipline of spirituality has changed radically: in relation to other theological disciplines, it has gained its independence; the theological landscape has altered significantly and the scholarly reflection of spirituality in non-theological disciplines has expanded explosively. In view of these developments, the reorientation of the study of spirituality to theology is, in our opinion, in order. We build this thesis in the following way: we begin in ancient Greece which supplied the matrix for Christian theology, including the study of spirituality. After a short stop in Athens, where Paul comes into contact with Greek forms of theology and spirituality, we pursue the three most important forms of Christian spiritual reflection: fundamental spirituality, biblical spirituality and practical spirituality. Some conclusions round off this study.
