Parmi ces insignes se trouvent les étendards. À la différence des autres marques d’honneur, les étendards sont dotés d’une orientation systématique. Cette orientation paraît savamment organisée. C’est cette orientation des étendards dans l’iconographie de grands bas-reliefs narratifs d’Angkor qui sera l’objet de cette étude. On the narrative bas-reliefs of Angkor are represented numerous attributes of honour; all of them are clustered around heroes. Among these attributes appear the banners. Unlike the other attributes of honour, banners are endowed with a systematic orientation. This very orientation appears rigorously organized. It is this orientation of the banners in the iconography of Angkor that will be examined in this study. |
