Edward Journal: Le Muséon Volume: 124 Issue: 1-2 Date: 2011 Pages: 1-10 DOI: 10.2143/MUS.124.1.2118187 Abstract : Schøyen MS 574 includes a portion of the text of the Asceticon by Abba Isaiah of Scete. This manuscript was not included in the critical edition of the Asceticon produced by René Draguet. Thus, the present article seeks to make the variant readings of Sch MS 574 available in a format convenient for comparison with Draguet’s edition. The article includes a physical description of the manuscript and a discussion of its relationship to one of the sources used by Draguet. The author concludes that the eight pages of Sch MS 574 are in fact missing pages from another manuscript described by Draguet. The variant readings from Sch MS 574 are presented in table format with references to Draguet’s critical apparatus. |
