Abstract :

While the links between the work of Paul Ricoeur and the hermeneutical and phenomenological tradition have been established and are recognised, and likewise his controversy with analytic thought, his philosophical relationship with the reflexive thought of Jean Nabert, on the other hand, remains relatively unexplored. Hence the aim of this article is to bring to light the active role that reflexive philosophy may have played in the work of the philosopher. Our hypothesis is that throughout his philosophical itinerary Ricoeur found in the thought of Nabert a general matrix, thanks to which he was able to maintain the self of reflection. Setting out from this matrix he was able to apply his hermeneutical attention to the mediations, thanks to which the self can understand itself better, without dissolving itself in them. It is reflexive philosophy that legitimises a positing of the self irreducible either to Cartesian exaltation or to Nietzschean annihilation. But it must also be noted that it explores an expression of self, the meaning of which Ricoeur adapted due to the privilege he accords to the paradigm of the text.
