Selon l’hypothèse défendue, la première figure renvoie à l’évaluation, par l’individu, de ses oeuvres et de ses idéaux subjectifs à partir d’un simple critère de cohérence avec soi-même. Dans la seconde figure en revanche, le vouloir de l’individu est conforme au devoir, et la question est de savoir comment un tel individu évalue la moralité du monde donné, dans quelle mesure il peut rendre le monde conforme à son exigence, et à quelle condition son agir peut être en lui-même conforme à la morale. En troisième lieu, l’article tend à montrer que, malgré d’importantes différences de contenu, une évolution analogue sépare les enjeux moraux tels qu’ils sont traités dans l’esprit subjectif et dans l’esprit objectif de l’Encyclopédie: d’un côté, un agir qui n’est référé qu’au moi individuel, de l’autre, un agir qui prétend à une validité substantielle. The article first examines two notions in the Phenomenology: «the real individuality» (in «reason») and «morality» (in «spirit»). According to the hypothesis defended, the first figure refers to the evaluation by the individual of his works and of his subjective ideals setting out from a simple criterion of coherence with oneself. In the second figure, on the other hand, the will of the individual conforms to duty, and the question is how such an individual evaluates the morality of the given world, to what extent he can make the world conform to his requirement, and on what condition his action can in itself conform to ethics. Thirdly, the article attempts to show that, in spite of important differences in content, an analogous evolution separates the moral questions as they are treated in the subjective spirit and in the objective spirit in the Encyclopaedia: on the one hand, an action that is referred only to the individual ego, on the other hand, an action that claims to have substantial validity. |
