Huang Journal: Acta Cardiologica Volume: 64 Issue: 5 Date: 2009 Pages: 669-671 DOI: 10.2143/AC.64.5.2042699 Abstract : We report a case of pericarditis with massive pericardial effusion in a female infant with cytomegalovirus (CMV) infection. Viral infection is a common cause of acute myocardial and pericardial disease; most of these patients are infected with enterovirus and are asymptomatic. Cardiac involvement in CMV infection is rare, with CMV-related pericarditis being reported mainly in patients who were immunocompromised as a result of autoimmune deficiency syndrome (AIDS) or organ transplantation. This paper describes a 3.5-month-old breastfed infant girl with a healthy history, who presented with CMV infection. |
