Abstract :
The names chosen by an author (including titles, depictive appellatives, and other fixed terms of identification) will characterize a text in many different ways. They may suggest, for example, relative stature, closeness or intimacy and distance, character type, or degrees of individuality or generality. Literary onomastic research necessitates the ability to work within several disciplines and to make use of the distinct methods related to each of them. It has struggled to define its own discipline. This paper will argue for more integration with literary theories in order to sustain a sound theoretical foundation for literary onomastics and to gain new inspiration.
