Document Details : Title: Sur un fragment du Kāśyapaparivarta Author(s): OGUIBÉNINE, Boris Journal: Journal Asiatique Volume: 282 Issue: 1 Date: 1994 Pages: 111-123 DOI: 10.2143/JA.282.1.2006117 Abstract : The principle of grammatical coherence of Buddhist Sanskrit texts should be consistently applied while analyzing, editing and especially trying to correct or to improve their readings. In spite of the composite character of the grammatical norm implemented in these texts, the presumed coherence reflects directly the Buddhist linguistic tradition generating and transmitting messages which have to be understandable within particular subtraditions (classes of texts belonging to various religious 'schools'). In grammatical terms, this means that texts of one and the same Buddhist linguistic subtradition possess their peculiar system of grammatical features (frequently shared among different subtraditions thus complicating the analyst's task). These features diverge sharply enough from those of the Pāṇinian norm though they may also make use of it which results in a 'hybrid' language. Eleven cases drawn from the Kāśyapaparivarta are provided to illustrate the above points. |
