Abstract :
For all the complaints of Paul (1Cor 5.1 etc.), the early Christians do not seem to have been excessively libidinous, nor were their vices crueller than the fashion of the day. One cannot therefore fail to be struck by the gravity of the charges which the pagans are said to have levelled at them as a ground of persecution.
