Abstract :
The positive effects of primidone in QT length shortening have been described in the literature. Hypocalcaemia is a documented side effect of longterm anticonvulsant treatment with primidone since the first description in 1970. Prolonged QT intervals and cardiac failure are well known in hypocalcaemic disorders. Considering that the primidone shortening of QT is an opposite effect in comparison with the QT hypocalcaemic lengthening, QT intervals were analysed in a case with severe primidone hypocalcaemia. Echocardiographic monitoring was further performed.
