Abstract :
Obstructive sleep apnoea-hypopnoea syndrome (OSAHS) is the periodic reduction (hypopnoea) or cessation (apnoea) of breathing due to narrowing or occlusion of the upper airway during sleep with consequent excessive daytime sleepiness, impaired quality of life and an increased risk of car crashes documented in several studies. Anatomic narrowing of the airway, increased collapsibility of the airway tissues, disturbances in reflexes that affect upper airway calibre and pharyngeal inspiratory muscle function contribute to upper airway occlusion during sleep.
