Abstract :
In June of 2003, the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith released a document entitled “Considerations Regarding Proposals to Give Legal Recognition to Unions between Homosexual Persons”. It seeks to “give direction to Catholic politicians by indicating the approaches to proposed legislation in this area which would be consistent with Christian conscience” (1) by giving arguments from Catholic teaching that also appeal to natural law and as such address the “common good of society”. Bernd Wannenwetsch, University Lecturer in Ethics at Harris Manchester College, Oxford University, presents the document and offers some comments from a protestant perspective.
