Frieslandian Onomastics In the oldest œuvres of the history of Friesland, the meaning of the name of the Fries people are often taken in account. Works from scholars such as Okke van Scharl and Marten Hamkes, successors and copiers of mostly anonymous chronicle writers, put often more attention to the (folkloric) tales related to the 'honorable' name of Fryslân, than to the name in itself. |
