Abstract :
For over 70 years now, the Orthodox Churches have been preparing their Great and Holy Council. The author outlines the history of this great endeavour, which is finally becoming successful. Agreement has been reached not only on issues such as fasting and marriage, but, more important, also on autocephaly and the question of the Orthodox Churches of the diaspora. It will, however, take time before the Great and Holy Council will be convened in order to review and, hopefully, confirm the findings of the representatives of the various Orthodox Churches.
