It emphasizes the universalistic meaning of the Discourse, which has always been underestimated in favour of its patriotic meaning. Ilarion stresses the fact that the conversion of Rus' brings the Russian people in contact with the universal, still undivided Christian Church. The final section deals with the rediscovery in Russia of Ilarion's Discourse in the late 1980's, after its negligence during Soviet times. The first Dutch translation of the major part of the Discourse is offered here. |
