Abstract :
This paper discusses the economic relation between Palmyra and Dura-Europos, a Seleucid foundation situated on the left bank of the Euphrates river, 220 kilometres to the East of Palmyra.1 The epigraphic and archaeological remains clearly point to the presence of a Palmyrene community from the first century BCE until the conquest of the city by the Sassanids around the middle of the third century CE. The present survey is restricted to the period during which Dura-Europos was under Parthian control, from about 114 BCE up till 165 CE.
