Abstract :

The testament of Manfredo La Muta, a Sicilian converso burnt at the stake in 1512, furnishes important data on the family size and financial circumstances of a middle class family of former Jews. Among other things, it reveals the fate of La Muta’s Jewish relatives exiled in Kingdom of Naples. The testament’s structure and contents provide information regarding attitudes and customs prevalent in Sicily in the early modern period. The article is followed by a transcription of the testament from an unpublished manuscript found in the State Archive of Palermo.
