Document Details : Title: Guadalupe Subtitle: The Birth of American Mestizo Christianity Author(s): ELIZONDO, John D. Journal: Louvain Studies Volume: 26 Issue: 4 Date: winter 2001 Pages: 295-312 DOI: 10.2143/LS.26.4.918 Abstract : In the very shadow of the Synod on America (1997) and John Paul's Ecclesia en America, it is exciting to be here speaking about the Christianity of the so-called 'new world' known today as America. It is even more exciting to be exploring this topic here at Leuven for there is no other university in the world which has made a greater commitment to the development of the philosophy and theology of persons from the Two-Thirds world than Leuven. You have welcomed us, encouraged us, lived amongst us, walked with us, helped us to develop our thought and our ideas in your university. You have truly entered into solidarity with us not to dominate us, but to help us develop the uniqueness of our thought and word. You have not only shared your great wisdom with us but have come to our lands to learn from our people and our efforts. You have become great partners with us in our common search for saving truth as this search continues through the various cultures, mentalities and languages of the various peoples of the planet. |
