Document Details : Title: The Canaanite Syllabary Author(s): COLLESS, Brian E. Journal: Ancient Near Eastern Studies Volume: 35 Date: 1998 Pages: 26-46 DOI: 10.2143/ANES.35.0.525767 Abstract : The writing system previously called 'Byblos syllabic characters' and 'the Gublaic syllabary' is better to be called 'the Canaanite Syllabary'. This writing system is closely related to the Canaanite proto-alphabetic that was found not only in Canaan, but also in Sinai and Egypt. Please note that this article is part of a series (Abr-Nahrain 30-34). The main issue here will be a response to the decipherment of Giovanni Garbini (Rivista di studi fenici 16, 1988, 129-131). |
