Especially medical instruments and their representations are very informative. Often the archaeological finds are boxes, etuis or cylindrical cases that contained these instruments. Only a few finds of this kind have been done in Egypt, the most famous being the representation of medical instruments on a wall of the temple of Kom Ombo. The article gives an overview of all known medical boxes etc. from Egypt from the first pharaonic dynasties to the Coptic period, and – based upon the collected data – gives an evaluation of the Egyptian medical knowledge. |
