His contact and secret love with Blanche could have provided him a welcome escape from conjugal difficulty but instead he decided to remain faithful to his spouse, also against the strong advise and pressure of his Catholic friends such as Jacques Maritain. Finally, Péguy’s faithfulness and his dedication to the Blessed Virigin has caused his wife to convert to Catholicism and to baptize their children, although only after his death in the Battle of the Marne, at the age of 41. |
