Document Details : Title: Sasanian Clay Sealing Collection in the Bandar Abbas Museum of Iran Author(s): NIKNAMI, Kamal Aldin , NADERI, Sona Journal: Ancient Near Eastern Studies Volume: 53 Date: 2016 Pages: 219-241 DOI: 10.2143/ANES.53.0.3154567 Abstract : The seals and clay sealings which are often all that remain of Sasanian archives have played a significant role in understanding the administrative structures of the empire. Until now, contextual evidence for Sasanian seals and clay sealings uncovered from their archaeological contexts included the examples from Qasr-ī Abu Nasr, Taxt-ī Soleymān, Tepe Kabudān in Iran, Ak-Tepe or old Abivard in Turkmenistan and Dvin in Armenia (to mention just the main cases). The provenances of most of the well-known collections in museums around the world or notable private collections such as the Ahmad Saeedi collection are a matter of considerable uncertainty. |
