Document Details : Title: La correspondance entre Formey et Marchand (1736-1749) Author(s): SCHILLINGS, Jan Journal: Lias Volume: 39 Issue: 2 Date: 2012 Pages: 231-320 DOI: 10.2143/LIAS.39.2.2967210 Abstract : This article provides an edition of the correspondence between the journalist and philosopher Jean-Henri-Samuel Formey in Berlin and the extremely well-connected bookseller Prosper Marchand in The Hague. The fifty letters in French disclose a treasure of information about the Dutch booktrade in the period 1736-1749, about intellectual discussions, and about the daily business of editorial work on all levels. The correspondence shows not only how an author and a publisher communicated with one another, but also gives insight into international Huguenot networks and the history of the Republic of Letters in the eighteenth century. |
