Document Details : Title: On Doing Islamic Theology in Europe Author(s): KILIC, Recep Journal: Studies in Interreligious Dialogue Volume: 17 Issue: 2 Date: 2007 Pages: 239-243 DOI: 10.2143/SID.17.2.2024010 Abstract : This article analyzes the possibility of practicing Islamic theology within the European context. To do so, it begins by exploring the dimensions of the relationship between theology and culture, and relates them to the meaning of theology and the conditions under which it has emerged. Second, it discusses the possible impact of the European cultural milieu on Islamic theology today. Third, taking the multicultural social structure of Europe into account, it evaluates what can be the best approach of Islam to the issue of religious diversity. Within this framework, it attempts to illustrate that the Quran allows us to adopt a totally new approach that is beyond exclusivism, inclusivism and pluralism. |
